Plumbing in Ajax: What Makes Local Homes Different
Ajax’s housing arrived in waves, and each wave left its own plumbing behind.
South Ajax and the wartime streets — the neighbourhoods near the lakefront that grew up around the original 1940s townsite, plus historic Pickering Village on the west side, which is older still. These homes regularly carry galvanized supply lines, cast iron stacks, and aging drains. Work here rewards careful diagnosis and proper material upgrades, not just part swaps.
The subdivision decades — the large tracts built from the 1970s through the 2000s across central Ajax, Westney Heights, and Nottingham. This is where we see original builder plumbing reaching end of life: worn shut-off valves, tired water heaters, and supply piping from eras with known problems that’s worth assessing before it fails, not after.
North Ajax — Audley and the newer builds pushing north. PEX supply and modern materials, but builder-grade fixtures that start failing as warranties expire, and sump systems that need battery backup before the first big storm.
Knowing which Ajax you’re standing in changes the right fix. That’s the difference between a plumber who services Ajax and one who knows it.
