Hard water doesn’t announce itself. It shows up as scale on the kettle, spots on the glassware, soap that won’t lather, and — the expensive one — mineral buildup shortening the life of your water heater, dishwasher and every fixture in the house.
We’re a direct dealer for Excalibur Water Systems, an Ontario manufacturer. That matters for two reasons: we’re not marking up someone else’s distribution chain, and when a part is eventually needed it comes from a company a few hours away rather than a warranty department in another country.
We install these as licensed plumbers, not as a sales team who subcontracts the plumbing. Same crew, same accountability, and the water lines are done properly.
Water Softeners
Excalibur Superior Series
Our standard softener for most Durham homes. Metered regeneration, so it only regenerates when it actually needs to rather than on a timer — that means less salt and less water used.
- 30,000 grain — from $1,900 installed. Suits most homes.
- 45,000 grain — $150 more than the 30k. For larger households, higher water use, or well water with heavier mineral loading.
Built around a Clack valve
Excalibur’s softeners use a Clack valve head. It’s the component that does the actual work, it’s the industry standard for a reason, and it’s serviceable — which is the opposite of the sealed proprietary heads that mean replacing the whole unit when something fails.
Backed for 12 years
Excalibur covers these softeners with a 12-year manufacturer warranty. Combined with a serviceable Clack valve and parts available in Ontario, that’s equipment intended to be kept rather than replaced.
Not sure which size you need?
Sizing depends on how many people are in the house, your water usage, and whether you’re on municipal supply or a well. We’ll ask a few questions on the phone and tell you which unit fits. We’d rather size it right than sell you the bigger one.
Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Systems
An under-sink RO system gives you filtered drinking and cooking water at the tap. It’s the practical answer to buying bottled water, and it’s the upgrade people notice fastest — coffee, tea, ice and cooking all change.
Excalibur Superior RO – $800 installed
Runs on your existing water pressure with no power connection required. Straightforward, reliable, and the right choice for most homes. Backed by a 5-year manufacturer warranty.
Excalibur Smart Purifier Plus RO – $1,400 installed
The higher-output system, with monitoring built in. Requires a power connection at the install location, so worth confirming there’s an outlet under the sink before you decide. Backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
Countertop drilling – $200
If your sink or counter doesn’t have an existing hole for the RO faucet, drilling is $200 on top. We tell you this up front rather than at the end. Granite, quartz and composite counters all need it; most stainless sinks with a spare hole don’t.
Whole-Home Filtration & Sediment Filters
Softening and filtering are different jobs. A softener handles hardness minerals. Filtration handles sediment, taste, odour and particulate — and on well systems it’s usually doing the heavier lifting.
We install and service whole-home filtration alongside softening, and we stock replacement cartridges:
- Sediment pre-filter cartridge replacement — $30 supplied. Easy to change yourself once we’ve shown you how, and we’ll do it on a service visit if you’d rather.
Pre-filtration protects everything downstream. A softener or RO system running on unfiltered well water works harder and doesn’t last as long.
UV Disinfection Systems
If your sink or counter doesn’t have an existing hole for the RO faucet, drilling is $200 on top. We tell you this up front rather than at the end. Granite, quartz and composite counters all need it; most stainless sinks with a spare hole don’t.
Clarity matters more than people expect
UV works on water it can reach. Sediment, iron and cloudiness shield anything passing through, which is why UV is almost always installed behind proper filtration rather than on its own. Combination units that pair pre-filtration and UV in one housing solve this in a single install, and on most well systems that’s the setup that actually makes sense.
Pricing depends on your system
We don’t publish a number here, and the reason is honest: UV is sized to your flow rate and to what pre-treatment you already have or still need. A combination filter-and-UV unit prices differently again. Tell us about your property and what your water is doing and we’ll quote the right configuration rather than selling you a lamp that can’t do its job.
If you’ve had a water test come back with a problem
Take that to your local health unit or the lab that ran it first — they’ll tell you what you’re actually dealing with. Then call us and we’ll put the treatment together around those results. We’d rather work from your test than guess.
Well Water Treatment
Well properties are a different problem than municipal supply. Hardness is usually higher, and you’re often dealing with iron, sulphur odour or sediment on top of it — which means the right answer is a combination of treatment rather than a softener alone.
We do a lot of well work across rural Clarington, Scugog, Uxbridge and Port Perry — pressure switches, pressure tanks, pumps and filtration — so we’re diagnosing the whole system rather than selling a softener into a problem it can’t fix.
If your water has a smell, a colour or a stain, tell us what you’re seeing. That usually narrows it down before anyone comes out. On most well properties the full answer combines softening, filtration and UV rather than any one of them alone.
Buy It Outright — Or Keep Renting
Most water treatment in Durham is sold on rental contracts. Rentals look cheap monthly and get expensive permanently: the payments don’t stop, you never own the equipment, and getting out of the agreement is often harder than getting into it. Some contracts attach to the property and follow you into a home sale.
Every system on this page is yours. You buy it once, we install it, and there’s no monthly line item and no contract to cancel.
If you’re currently renting and want out, tell us what you’ve got. We’ll tell you honestly whether replacing it makes financial sense yet, or whether you’re better off waiting until the term is closer to done.

Installation & Warranty
Installed by our own licensed plumbers, not a subcontracted sales channel. That means the water lines, the bypass, the drain connection and the commissioning are done to plumbing standard.
- Our labour warranty: one year on installation.
- Softener manufacturer warranty: 12 years from Excalibur. That’s a long horizon for a piece of equipment you own outright, and it’s worth holding up against what a rental contract gives you over the same period — twelve years of payments and no equipment at the end of it.
- Reverse osmosis manufacturer warranty: 5 years on the Superior RO, 2 years on the Smart Purifier Plus RO.
- UV systems: warranty terms provided with your quote, since the unit depends on sizing.
Replacement parts are available through Excalibur in Ontario, so servicing these systems years from now is a normal parts order rather than a hunt.
